Germany, Imperial. A Rare Silver Grade Wound Badge, Screwback Variant, by Otto Schickle Newly Listed USS Asheville's only known survivor(Verwundetenabzeichen in Silber). Constructed of silvered bronze, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, with a central raised Stahlhelm on top of crossed swords on a pebbled field, the reverse with a central threaded lug retaining a replacement washer, unmarked but demonstrating the characteristics of a variant produced by Otto Schickle, Pforzheim, c. 1925, measuring 38. 54 mm (w) x 43. 48 mm
