This tartan was originally supplied by William Wilson and Sons of Bannockburn to a Mr Kidd who used it to clothe the slaves on his West Indian plantation

but there is no mention in Wilson's comprehensive pattern books of a MacKinlay tartan

It is not generally regarded as a clan tartan

We’ve used our newest and exclusive Glenlyon tweed design and the result is an incredibly smart

'The Tartans of the Clans of Scotland' (1886) says

The tartan is also suitable for MacTavishs and Thompsons, who claim descent from the Clan MacIntosh.
