Constructed of magnetic metal, the obverse consisting of a shield bearing central raised and crossed swords, above a date of 1942 and overlaying a central monoplane, topped by an inscription of DEMJANSK and German national eagle flanked by log pillboxes, the reverse retaining two of four original clips formerly securing the shield to a backplate and wool liner, both of which have been lost to time, unmarked, measuring 50. 65 mm
